New State Permit Allows City to Treat More Wastewater

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) has issued the City of St. Cloud a new permit increasing the wastewater treatment capacity of the St. Cloud Southside Wastewater Treatment Facility. The new permit increases the treatment facility’s capacity from the existing 6 million gallons per day (MGD) of annual average daily flow (AADF) to 7.6 MGD AADF capacity. Obtaining the permit for the rerating of the Southside Facility will save the City significant future capital expenditures.

"This additional 1.6 MGD in capacity will save the City $10-15 million in future expenditures to construct this capacity at the Southside facility," said Interim Utilities Director Brian Wheeler.
