Cyber Spot, the City?s municipal high-speed Wi-Fi network, is
currently suspended.
A timeline showing the Cyber Spot service suspension is
provided below.
Sept. 24, 2009- City Council voted to suspend the Cyber
Spot service. Service was continued for 4 more months on Oct. 1, 2009, to
allow residents time to find a new Internet service provider.
Dec. 10, 2009- The motion to direct City staff to
negotiate a new, more cost- effective contract for Cyber Spot service failed 2-3.
March 25, 2010- City Council approved a motion
to include a non-binding advisory referendum on the Nov. 2, 2010,
General Election ballot, allowing for citizen input on the future of Cyber
Spot.
