The Community Outreach Unit at the Police Department serves as two units in one.  These Units are the Community Relations and Crime Prevention Units.  The Community Outreach program consists of an aggressive combination of community relations and crime prevention functions.

The St. Cloud Police Department is committed to establishing close ties and responding to the needs of the citizens of St. Cloud.  We accomplish this by the implementation of community based programs and correcting actions or practices that may contribute to community tension or grievances.

Community Relations
- The main function of this section is to establish and maintain a liaison with formal community organizations and other community groups.  This is accomplished by providing FREE programs to City of Saint Cloud residents such as:

  • Child Fingerprinting
  • Personal Safety Workshops
  • Drug and Alcohol Awareness
  • Citizen Police Academy
  • Stranger Danger
  • Gun Safety
  • Bicycle Safety

The community relations officer meets and works with these various groups and organizations on a monthly basis and advises them of criminal activities or trends occurring in their respective areas.

Crime Prevention - The St. Cloud Police Department is committed to development, implementation and perpetuation of comprehensive and proactive programs which anticipate, recognize and appraise crime risks and which initiate actions to remove or reduce those crime risks.

This is the organizational component which is responsible for coordinating and implementing crime prevention activities for the police department.

The Crime Prevention Unit offers a broad range of services and programs designed to promote a keen awareness of crime and the dangers associated with criminal activity.  Some of the programs offered are:

  • Bicycle Registration
  • Business and Residential Security Surveys
  • Child Abduction Prevention
  • CPTED Surveys
  • Neighborhood Watch
  • Operation Identification
  • Workplace Violence Prevention

The St. Cloud Police Department also has several chaplains both of whom are retired police officers. The chaplains work as victim advocates, counselors for officers and its citizens. Chaplains are also used for death notifications and other assigned duties.
